Originally from Brazil, she moved to this country, got married, had a successful career, and then became a mom to two beautiful girls.  And while she came to the Team as a skilled swimmer, it wasn't until she began training that she discovered her natural running talent.  Since then she's continued to compete even after going back to work full time.  Balancing all of this and being a TriROK Foundation Board member, Mariana can teach us all a thing or two about juggling.  That's why she is this week's TriROK Guest Blogger...be inspired by her example!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;From Mari:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"I never thought I would become what I am today. An athlete. A triathlete!&lt;br /&gt;My life changed in the fall of 2007, when I was challenged to train and race for a triathlon. The first thought that came to my mind was, “Are you Nutz? I would never be able to do that." But I took it up and learned that not only I could do it, I loved doing it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I’m a mom to 2 girls and I was carrying around that extra baby weight at the time I started training. I just felt exhausted all the time. I didn’t even own workout clothes. It was challenging, yes, but incredibly fun to learn 3 sports at the same time. I had never run before in my life and only ridden a bike as a child. But I had to do that. I had to turn around my sedentary life of TV watching and late night snacking and show my girls a healthier lifestyle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What motivates me the most is that my children can see how hard I’ve been working and how proud I am of myself. My oldest daughter is at the “obese” mark for body mass index and I do it for her. My younger one doesn’t like the water. Every time they are scared of swimming or don’t feel like riding their bike, I remind them that mommy feels the same way but I still do it. Just keep moving. We ride our bikes together, we go to the Y swimming (I do my workout while they are in class, too) and we love to race up our street.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you are not sure you have what it takes, believe in yourself. You do have what it takes. Give your family a chance to become healthier and stronger. Just TRI it! That's why one of the greatest assets that we offer to each of the families participating in our FamiliesTRI Program is their very own mentor family, who has gone through the program before them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Before we became the TriROK Foundation, we were Team TriROK.  We helped individuals realize their dreams of training for and competing in their very first sprint triathlons.  In order to do that, they had to take on some scary things: learning to swim, riding a bike in traffic, making the effort to start running.  They had to learn about goggles, helmets, running shoes, and trisuits.  They had to get body marked, learn how to fix a flat tire, and explain to their kids why they were doing all this.  In other words, they know what the FamiliesTRI participants are taking on.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And they are here to help.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Over the coming months, you'll hear from each of the founding members of Team TriROK, as well as later members.  Hopefully their stories will inspire you, whether you apply to FamiliesTRI or not.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Speaking of which, we are accepting applications until October 15th. In all we got 10 new triathletes officially into the sport, kept another 3 involved for a second year, and have a few more yet to dive into their first races, but well on the way there. Please rsvp if you are planning on coming. Meet in the far lefthand parking lot if you are facing the school (by the northernmost driveway on Route 1A).  If you need to learn clipless pedals try to come by 2:45pm (Liz, Beth, etc.) so you can get comfy with them before we start.  Jenn Flaherty - I will bring an extra bike for you so you can come :)  Please make an effort to come to this time if there is anyway you can, since the sunday one will probably be rained out and the friday time will be squished.  Please RSVP either way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sunday:&lt;br /&gt;We will ALSO meet at 10am at the High School on Sunday, March 29th IF IT IS NOT RAINING (much). The sooner you sign up the better.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Clinic 1: Nutrition for Training, Racing, and Life&lt;br /&gt;March 10th, 6:30pm&lt;br /&gt;April's Essex Studio&lt;br /&gt;Come learn the essentials of eating for optimal health, training, and racing (and yes, weight management as well). We'll focus on practical strategies that will make a healthy relationship with food feel natural, and optimize your performance in life and on race day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Clinic 2: Swim Time Trials and Skills for the Triathlon Swim&lt;br /&gt;March 14th, 7:00am (NOTE - 7am NOT pm!)&lt;br /&gt;Manchester Athletic Club&lt;br /&gt;Get timed for the pool triathlon you are doing (whether it's sudbury, jcc, marlboro, or sherriff's) and learn how to pushoff, turn, and cross under the lane lines. We'll also simulate race conditions to get you comfortable and confident for race day. This clinic is highly recommended for everyone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Clinic 3: Bike Skills and Handling&lt;br /&gt;March 29th, 10a.m.&lt;br /&gt;Cherry Hill Parking Lot&lt;br /&gt;This clinic is MANDATORY. You will not be allowed on a group, coached bike ride with Team TriROK if you have not completed this clinic. We will discuss rules of the road, safety measures and equipment, and most importantly practice: starts, stops, clipping in and out of pedals, u-turns, road turns, weaving, swerving, signaling, accessing food and hydration, passing, and other skills. You'll learn valuable drills to practice on every ride so that you will be fully confident in your skills come race day. We will set up the group ride schedule to train for the target triathlons at this clinic. This clinic is inconveniently scheduled mid-morning on purpose...this time of year it can be VERY cold early morning to stand around and bike around. It's An Awesome Training Event...</title><content type='html'>Dear Friends of Fit Werx:&lt;br /&gt;I’m writing to invite you to participate in the “Ride for JULES V” (&lt;a href="http://www.rideforjules.org/" target="_blank"&gt;www.rideforjules.org&lt;/a&gt;) indoor cycling spin-a-thon on Saturday, March 7, 2009 which will benefit the American Diabetes Association.  If you've already signed up, thank you!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On February 10, 2008 my mother Julie (Jules) passed away from the devastating complications of Diabetes.  My mother had to endure Kidney Dialysis three days a week to keep her alive, had multiple by-pass surgeries on her legs to restore circulation, the toes on her right foot amputated and ultimately her right leg was amputated above the knee.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let me tell you this… If you ever met my mother you would know that she never complained even though she was in constant pain.  She was a rock and had a strength I could only hope for.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I founded the event in 2004 to inspire my mother during a tough period and the millions of people who suffer from Diabetes.  Do you know that Diabetes kills more people than AIDS and Breast Cancer combined?  It’s amazing…  I felt the need to do my part and that’s why I’m asking for your help. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In four years the Ride for JULES has raised over $250,000 for the A.D.A. and their signature cycling event the Tour De Cure. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There isn’t a fundraising minimum, but we need everyone to do their very best. &lt;br /&gt;Our goal this year is to raise $100,000&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The spin-a-thon is a 3 hour event where you can ride for all 3 hours or 1 of the hours.  We’ll have over 100 spin bikes, a DJ playing tunes, plenty of nutrition for the ride and more.  It’s an inspiration filled, energy driven event that will motivate and inspire YOU.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Would you like to ride? (Racing for Our Kids) is a catalyst: using support and education, we transform sedentary individuals into athletes. We harness the power of inspiration to spread fitness and healthy lifestyles throughout families and communities. Team TriR.O.K. is free to join and provides training plans, partners, and resources including used equipment and swim clinics to our members.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#333333;"&gt;Why are we?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;Childhood and adult obesity is a growing epidemic in this country, fueled by increased inactivity from young ages. But this disease can be effectively battled when parents show their kids there is another way…to get active and have fun doing it. Team TriR.O.K. helps parents do just that, by giving them the tools they need to get involved in the sports of triathlon, running, cycling, or swimming. By setting goals and enjoying training, they will be setting an invaluable example to their families, their friends, and their communities. Team TriR.O.K.’s goal is to make successful participation in triathlon affordable for everyone who is interested, by connecting team members with free or low cost, quality used equipment and training resources.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#333333;"&gt;Who are we?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;The original Team TriR.O.K. was composed of 7 friends and mothers who decided to inspire their kids through triathlon. One of the 7, April Bowling, was an experienced triathlete who served as a coach for the Team. No one else in the group was a runner, biker, or swimmer! But after 9 months of training (using mostly used or borrowed bikes) our members went on to successfully compete in the Michael Dunleavy 5K and the JCC Triathlon-by-the-Sea, as well as several other road races and triathlons. Our experience has been so positive that we have decided to try to expand it to help others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#333333;"&gt;How can you get involved?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Membership is free. We hold training support meetings once a month, have an email newsletter, and hold regular training and equipment clinics.
